Relationship of Morphological Maturation with Physical Growth and Development in the Term of Growth Acceleration

Abstract
Abstact-This study was designed to inverstigate the relationship of physical growth and development with maturation. Morphological maturation was used to evaluate the maturation and it was determined by the age ; PHV age, when maximal growth
velocity of
stature appeared.
One hundred forty Korean boys and 142 girls participated in this study. Their longitudinal data of physique; stature and body weight, were collected from 6 years old through 17, and also the longitudinal data of motor ability; 100m dash, standing
long
jump, ball throw, pull-ups and sit-ups, were collected from 10 years old through 16. Then, in reference with the PHV age, the subjects were classified into 4 groups in boys and 6 in girls. Between different PHV age groups, mean growth and
development
distances were compared in each age ; 10 years old through 16 or 17. Comparison was worked out by testing significant difference at each age with ANOVA and t-test, and x*-test in 2 dimensional frequency table whose factors were rank order in
magnitude
of growth and development for one and PHV age for another. Then, the boys showed closer relationship of maturation with growth and development than girls, although it was fond that maturation related significantly with physical growth and
development in
these ages for both boys and girls. In boys, their relationship were found positive, so it was inferred that faster the maturation higher the level of physical growth and development. In girls, however, it was the case for physique growth, but
the
relationship between maturation and motor ability development was negative, although magnitude of relationship was very low but significant. For muscular endurance, any significant relationship was not found in both boys and girls.
